Uhmegle, reviewed: what it does,
what it costs, and where it stops.

Uhmegle is one of the random chat sites that filled the gap after the original shut down. This is what it actually offers, who you will meet on it, and how it compares with Uhmingle, which takes the same one-tap idea and applies it to a very different pool.

What Uhmegle is

Uhmegle is a browser-based random chat that launched in 2024. You open the page, pick text or video, optionally add a few interest tags or a country, and the site pairs you with a stranger who is online. There is no account, no profile and nothing to install on the web version, which is the whole appeal: it behaves the way the original did, before that closed.

It leans on that lineage openly. The name is a near-homophone, the layout is the familiar two-panel one, and the pitch is the same promise of a random person in one click. What it adds is moderation: Uhmegle says it runs both human moderators and AI detection, and it bans accounts that break its rules rather than warning them.

How matching works on Uhmegle

The pool is everyone who has the page open. Matching is random within that pool, narrowed only by whatever filters you set. Add interests and you are paired with people who typed the same tags; pick a country and the pool shrinks to that region. Skip and you go back into the queue for the next person.

That is a wide net, and it works the way wide nets do. In video mode you will meet a lot of people quickly, most of them men, most of them also pressing skip. In text mode the entry cost is lower still, which is where automated accounts tend to show up first on any open chat. Uhmegle's moderation exists to deal with exactly that, and it is reactive: the bad match happens, then the report and the ban.

What Uhmegle costs

Nothing. Uhmegle is free on the web, does not advertise a premium tier, and the Android app is a free download. Independent reviews list the lack of paid features as a drawback rather than a plus, which tells you what they were comparing it to; for a person who just wants an open random chat, free with no upsell is the right answer.

Who is on Uhmegle

Worldwide, 18 and over on the website, and mixed. The Android listing is rated Teen, which is a store rating rather than a promise about who is actually online, and worth knowing if you expected an adults-only room. With over a hundred thousand app installs and no registration on the web, the pool is large at busy hours and thin at odd ones, like every random chat.

Where Uhmegle falls short

Three things, all structural rather than bugs.

  1. Nobody is checked before they enter the pool. Moderation catches problems after they happen. If your goal is to talk to a real person of a particular kind, you are doing the filtering yourself, one skip at a time.
  2. Interest tags match words, not people. Typing the same tag as someone else tells you almost nothing about whether you want to talk to them, and on a big pool the tags mostly reshuffle the same crowd.
  3. Bans are blunt. Reviews consistently mention that Uhmegle bans hard and that appeals are slow or unanswered. That is the price of moderating an open pool, and it means a false positive can lock you out with no obvious route back.

None of that makes Uhmegle a bad site. It makes it an open one, and open is a design choice with a known cost.

Side by side

Uhmegle vs Uhmingle

Should you use Uhmegle, or switch?

Use Uhmegle if what you want is the open experience: anyone, any gender, text when you do not feel like a camera, interest tags to steer a little. It is free, it is moderated, and it is the closest thing to the original that is still running.

Switch if the reason you open a random chat is to meet women and the skip button is doing most of the work. Uhmingle removes that job. Every match is a private one-to-one video call with a woman who has passed photo verification and is live at that second, so the first face you see is the kind of person you came for. There is no text mode and no filter panel, because the pool is the filter. The mechanics are on the random webcam chat page; who is actually online and when is on the female video chat page.

The honest trade: Uhmegle is broader and entirely free; Uhmingle is narrower, free to start, and paid past the first call if you want unlimited matching. Which one is right depends on whether you came to meet anyone, or someone.

Questions

Uhmegle, answered

Is Uhmegle free?

Yes. Uhmegle is free to use on the web with no registration, and no premium tier is advertised. The Android app is a free download as well.

Is Uhmegle safe?

Safer than the site it replaced, by design: it runs human and AI moderation, enforces an 18+ rule on the web version, and bans rule-breakers. What it does not do is verify anyone before they enter the pool, so the person you are matched with could be anyone. Treat it the way you would treat any open random chat: no personal details, and leave the moment something feels off.

Is Uhmegle the same as Omegle?

No. It is a separate service launched in 2024, built to serve the people who used to open Omegle: random strangers, text or video, no account. The mechanics are similar; the company, the moderation and the rules are not.

Does Uhmegle have an app?

There is an Android app on Google Play listed as "Uhmegle - Connect Live Chat", with over 100,000 installs and a 3.8-star rating at the time of writing. On iPhone you use the website in Safari.

Why was I banned on Uhmegle, and can I get unbanned?

Uhmegle bans for nudity, harassment and anything its moderation flags, and reviews consistently describe the appeal process as slow or unclear. The only route is its own support; nobody else can lift a Uhmegle ban. If you would rather not wait, Uhmingle needs no account, so there is nothing to be banned from before your first call.

What is the difference between Uhmegle and Uhmingle?

Uhmegle is an open random chat: anyone, any gender, text or video, filtered by interests. Uhmingle is a closed one: every match is a private video call with a woman who has passed photo verification and is live right now. If you want to meet anyone, Uhmegle is broader. If you want to meet women without pressing skip forty times, that is what Uhmingle is built for.

Skip the skipping.

One tap on Uhmingle connects you to a verified woman who is online right now. First call free, no account.
